High-Availability techniques and load balancing
Only a fraction of Finnish Hosting companies use high-availability techniques and load balancing. Some companies also advertice that they utilize these techniques even though only a part of their services really does. (e.g. not the email which is usually the most critical part of the service.).Our web-, mail-, sql-, ftp and ssh-servers use both the clustering and high-availability techniques. Clustering ensures that server load spikes are evenly distributed to several servers allowing high performance even during sudden loads. High availability means that the internet traffic is only routed to servers that are available. This ensures that the service will work normally even in case of an individual server suddenly malfunctioning.
Servers
We use IBM HS20 Blader servers, all of which have RAID1 mirrored SCSI or FLASH drives, redundant PSUs, system fans and routers. Our main storage unit is configured as RAID6 which allows even two simultaneous hard drive failures without affecting the services or causing data loss. Our servers have processors with 8 cores and 8 Gigabytes of RAM.Server room and internet-connection
Our servers are located in Lahti Energia facility in Lahti. Our server room also has redundant power and cooling. Access to facility is restricted. Our internet connection is 100/100mb and it goes through four different routes to Finland's central hub Ficix and foreign connections go through two different routes.
